A Long Road Home - and Still Traveling

Cathedral Basilica of St John the Apostle - Eger, Hungary
I've spent the morning trying to put the last few months of my life into perspective as I go through my photos from a trip we took in September to Ukraine. Hubby went there to teach about how the US Forest Service manages their watersheds and I went along to be part of a Carpathian/Appalachian Mountain Cultural Exchange - they wanted me to bring some of my quilts. (You might remember that my Carpathian Mountain Sunset was inspired by Ukrainian photographer Leonid Tit's photographs.)

Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious

I really need to name this quilt!
Work is continuing on my Mary Poppins quilt - it's on my floor being blocked now.  I thought I'd show you a couple of things today. First, how I use Liquid Stitch or Liquid Thread, and second how I added the tulle bow ties blocks in the sky. (And third a tiny bit about using Glad Press n Seal for quilt patterns.)

Wanted: A Nanny for Two Adorable Children

My Mary P.
My mom took me to see Mary Poppins when I was a little girl and she told me years later that I cried all the way home because I wanted it to be real.

What was it about this sweet musical that so captured my imagination? I'm still thinking about it over 50 years later.

New Quilt - Guess what scene I'm making?

A landscape scene - buildings...

It has been a long time since I've posted! This year is incredibly busy as I'm teaching so much but I wanted to show you what I'm working on these days. I knew I was going to have a busy year so I told my friends that I was hopeful that I could make 1 quilt this year. Welp, this is it.

It is a scene - imaginary - yet inspired by a well known movie. Usually I post the finalized picture first and then show you how I got there but this time I think I'll leave you guessing.  See if you can figure out what imaginary scene I'm making...

First Light Project, Sewing Room Redo and Memphis Trip

First Light
I'm teaching a lot this year and haven't had much time to make quilts - but I needed another project for a class so I came up with this - I'm calling it First Light because I have a dark sunset project with a name Last Light which also has pine trees.  (Do I need to put a "Run On Sentence Alert" on that last!?)

Overhanging Oak Branches - Finished!

Overhanging Oak Branches 2017

Hi everyone! It's been a while since I blogged I know. I've been busy with regular life and one of the big changes is that I'm finally an empty nester.  I thought things were supposed to slow down for those of us in this stage of life... so far that hasn't happened.  Anyway, I'll be on the road teaching a lot this year so I'll blog when I can but it won't be a big year for blogs I'm afraid.
